It's a term used to describe someone who is friendly, reliable and generally good-natured. It means someone who is trustworthy, decent and someone you can count on. In the world of hospitality, being someone your team can count on is crucial.
Being Proper

Drinks at Work
Drugs & Work
Uniform
Hygiene & Cleanliness
It's a thing. We are not sure if it's a mantra, a commitment or just a word that describes who we are. But we are sure that everyone needs to be it if you work at Wonderkid Hospitality. It is the thing that makes everyone in all our pubs feel like they belong here. So, you need to be Proper. It is a requirement of being able to work here and, to be crystal clear, we mean:
You need to be honest: liars or cheats won't be tolerated.
You need to be kind: if you do something deliberately towards another team member or customer that is not kind (even if you think it's a joke), you might lose your job.
What you say online and how you say it matters. Words matter and they can hurt people. If you post hatred, illicit images or content and/or cause harm online, this could become a work problem too. Not only would it not be proper, it would be in direct contradiction to how we want people to feel when they come to a Wonderkid Pub.
Don't be a dick online or you might lose your job
Don't break the law online or you might lose your job
Don't knowingly spread hate online, it's not okay with us
On the flip side, using your personal social media accounts at work to share what it's like to be at Wonderkid Pubs is ace. Same goes for re-posting content on your personal channels and saying you work for us. If it's positive, about sharing who we are and having a laugh, go on. Just be sound and use your head.
We run pubs, so drinking at work while on shift might happen. This is very different from being intoxicated at work. If a customer buys you a drink and you want to have it across the bar with them (you can happily say no), that's okay, but not if it's your 3rd or 4th or 10th shot. Know your limits. Understand that the moment you become intoxicated on shift you will be sent home, and there may be consequences to that decision that could result in you losing your job. Please understand the following:
1-2 drinks at work is an acceptable limit to drive and therefore an acceptable limit to operate our pubs
Only across-the-bar drinks are permitted; you cannot have any drinks in any other way while on shift
After-work drinks in venue: your manager may authorise drinks after work, and these must be supervised and properly recorded
You can't be under the influence of any drugs while on shift. It is dangerous and our licence requirements are very clear that it is not acceptable. And, regardless of how you feel about drug use, working on shift is never a place to be on drugs.
If your manager believes you are under the influence while on shift, you will be asked to go home and an investigation into your conduct will take place. This would be considered gross misconduct, meaning you could get sacked with no notice.
If you are in our venues at any time (working or not) and are found to have drugs in your possession or are found to be using drugs in the venue, you will be asked to go home and an investigation into your conduct will take place. This would be considered gross misconduct, meaning you could get sacked with no notice.
We have a pretty simple one for now. We'll provide you with a plain black T-shirt (or more, depending on your expected number of shifts). We ask that you arrive for work with it clean AND ironed. What else you wear is down to you, as long as it's clean and presentable. Be yourself while at work and express who you are.
Like everything else in this policy, be careful not to accidentally or deliberately promote hatred or symbols associated with any level of hate. We reserve the right to ask you to remove an item of clothing or jewellery that we believe is making someone feel uncomfortable or is dangerous (excessively large jewellery).
Don't stink. Bartending is an intimate affair: you are working closely with others and not far from our customers. And your arms are up and down, up and down. Wearing deodorant is a must and you will be spoken to if you stink, so don't make someone have that chat with you. Same goes for showering and cleaning your clothes; both are necessary and expected of you.
